How to install a painting on the wall?

Hanging a picture on the wall may seem simple, but there are a few key steps to follow to ensure your picture hangs securely, is properly aligned, and is safe. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you hang a picture:

Materials needed:

  • Tape measure .
  • Spirit level (to check horizontality).
  • Pencil (to mark fixing points).
  • Drill (if you need to drill into the wall).
  • Screws and dowels (suitable for the type of wall).
  • Picture hooks (or hanging wire, or hanging system).
  • Screwdriver (if using screws).

Steps to install a painting on the wall:

1. Choose the location of the table

  • Decide exactly where you want to hang the painting. Consider how high you want it to hang. A height of around 1.5m from the floor is usually ideal for a painting, but it depends on your space and the effect you want to achieve.
  • Use a tape measure to measure the location.

2. Mark the location of the fasteners

  • Measure the distance between the hanging hooks on the back of the painting, or the position of the hanging wire if your painting has one.
  • If your painting has two hooks (one on each side), measure the distance between the two hooks to mark them on the wall. If it's a painting with a single hook or a hanging wire, simply measure the distance to the center of the painting.
  • Use a pencil to mark the points where you will need to insert the fixing hooks or screws.

3. Checking horizontality

  • Before drilling, use a spirit level to ensure that the marked points are at the same height, so that the painting is horizontal once hung.

4. Prepare the wall for installation

  • If you are hanging your painting on a plaster , concrete or brick wall, you will need to use suitable wall plugs and screws to ensure a solid fixing.
  • If you are hanging the picture on a drywall wall (such as plasterboard), use special plasterboard anchors .
  • For concrete or brick walls, use expansion anchors or metal anchors.

5. Drill holes for dowels (if necessary)

  • At the place where you marked, drill the holes for the dowels using a drill. The size of the drill bit should match the size of your dowels. If you don't want to drill holes, you can use adhesive hooks , but this is only suitable for lightweight pictures.

6. Install the hooks or brackets

  • If your board has hooks, insert the screws into the anchors and screw them firmly into the wall. You can also install a hanging wire if necessary.
  • If using picture hooks , hang them on the screws already installed.

7. Hang the painting

  • If you have installed hooks , hang the painting directly on the hooks or hanging wires, depending on your painting configuration.
  • Adjust the board so that it is straight. Use a spirit level again to check that it is perfectly horizontal.

8. Final check

  • Check one last time that your board is securely fixed and that the position is correct.
  • If necessary, adjust the positioning slightly so that everything is aligned properly.

Additional tips:

  • Weight of the painting : If the painting is particularly heavy, it is important to use sturdy fixings, such as screw hooks or metal brackets , suitable for the weight.
  • Lightweight Pictures : For lighter pictures, adhesive hooks or nail hooks may be sufficient.
  • Avoid cracks : If the wall is fragile or you don't want to drill, opt for adhesive hooks or special solutions for drywall.

By following these steps, you will be able to hang your paintings securely and professionally.
